Old Toad (2019)

This song was written for my wife and inspired by a giant, old toad we found on an island in Lake Michigan where no humans live. It was beautiful.

Lyrics:

Old King Toad, do you know where the road is gonna lead?
Where did you come from and what are you sittin' there to see?

Refrain:
The Toad knows.
The Toad knows.
The Old King Toad,
He knows.

Old Toad,
How far down do the roots need to go before the flood?
And how much rain does it take 'fore the earth'll turn to mud?

(Refrain)

Well, Old Toad knows
How high up do the leaves need to grow before they die?
And what low path does a grub need to take to reach the sky?

(Refrain)

How many half-sleepin' seeds lie beneath the frozen ground?
And how much longer before all my weaknesses are found?

(Refrain)

Old King Toad, on the road, it was always you and me.
I don't know where I'm goin' or what I've been comin' here to see.

Oh, but

(Refrain x2)
